Java Scripture, Christian Education Wing
Sundays, 9:45 am - Led by Kim Jaynes
Co-ed, all ages
The JavaScripture class seeks to provide a Christian community that helps each member grow spiritually and deal with the happenings of life.
Pastors and pundits agree that Christianity is less of a force in American politics and culture than at any time in recent memory. How did this happen? What does it mean? And how can we, as committed Christ-followers, engage in this new and different society to fulfill what God wants to accomplish through us? Author Gabe Lyons proposes that this cultural shift is not necessarily bad news for Christians; rather, it offers an unprecedented opportunity to show those around us what the Good News of Christ really means if we recognize and understand the new reality.
The class will examine Bible passages, see Christian leaders such as Scot McKnight, Tim Keller, Andy Crouch, and Eric Metaxas weigh in on DVD clips, and spend a lot of time discussing the ideas in Gabe Lyons’ book, The Next Christians: Following Jesus in a Post-Christian Culture. And as always, the class will spend time each week in prayer for one another.
