It’s a good thing we have Martha and Mary at the end of this week, though Martha in the story probably felt terribly judged. Judgment is a theme of our texts – the prophet Amos speaks God’s judgment on all who trample on the poor; the Biblical Israel may be God’s “home team,” but that means the expectations are higher, not lower, for their example. So it is with us who have been entrusted with the mystery of Christ. We are expected to, as Colossians says, continue steadfast in the faith, and with Mary, choose the better part.
