Thankfully, we don’t take our baby names from Hosea! Hosea portrays God’s relationship with Israel through the lens of a bad marriage, where the children’s names reflect God’s judgment. Don’t try this at home! The extended metaphor imagines God as an abandoned spouse who badly wants to reclaim his people. The psalm shows the relief at reunion, and then Ephesians tells the story of salvation. In Luke, Jesus teaches his disciples to pray and tells parables about God’s kindness in answering our prayers. A connecting thread may be the reminder that God is faithful, always, even when we are not.
