Pastor Search

Erin is seeking a new pastor.

Since 1877, Erin has been blessed with faithful ministers who have worked alongside Erin’s members, to grow in discipleship and to serve Christ in Knoxville, TN, and beyond.

Our former minister, the Rev. John Stuart, retired December 31, 2023, after 28 joyful years of service. Since then, we have been working on seeking God’s will for our next steps together, and discerning who God might be calling as our next pastor. The Rev. Dr. Anne McKee is serving as Interim Pastor until our next minister is called.

I’ve been married to Paul for twenty years, and I am mother to Rose (16) and Isabella (13). I teach math and science for Knox County Schools, at L&N Stem Academy. I joined Erin in 2010, and I am active in choir and handbells. I have served as an Elder and a Sunday School teacher, and I have participated in Discipleship, Personnel, and Outreach.

I was attracted to Erin for several reasons, including the music, the warmth of our congregation, and the size and environment for my family (as our website says, “Big enough to make a difference…small enough to know your name.”). I especially love our hands-on outreach opportunities. My family enthusiastically volunteers at FISH Pantry, even when it’s not officially with Erin Church, and I have Habitat for Humanity marked on my calendar for July! I’m excited about the opportunity to serve on the PNC, to help discern God’s will for Erin Church during the next part of our congregation’s faith journey.

I have been a member of Erin Church since 2006. My husband, Justin, and I have been married for 24 years. We have two young adult daughters, who also are members of Erin through Confirmation. For 18 years, I have been a member of the Choir and Presbyterian Women. I also have been actively involved in the Discipleship, Fellowship, and Creative Expressions ministries and have served twice as an Elder on Session. In 2012, I joined the Erin staff as the Family Ministries Leader, a part-time position. In this role, I work to plan, coordinate, and implement our various children’s programs for children 5th grade and younger. Erin Church truly feels like a second home to me and the people are my extended family. I am humbled to be asked to serve on the PNC and pledge to do so with dedication and prayer, and with God’s help.

I am a cradle Presbyterian….that cradle just happened to be located in Erin Presbyterian Church. I was ordained as a Ruling Elder in 1979 at Bellevue Presbyterian Church in Nashville.

I have belonged to 3 different Presbyterian churches in my moves around TN, where I have served on Session, have been Clerk of Session at 2 of them, have served as convener of Fellowship, Congregational Care, Worship, and Finance. I think my true calling is Fellowship/Congregational Care.

I enjoy participating in a variety of music programs, wherever I am. I’ve also been active in Women of the Church/Presbyterian Women as Moderator at all 3 churches and attended a National Gathering in 1990 representing the East TN Presbytery. I look forward to being a part of moving my Erin family into this new phase of our church life.

Erin has been Cynthia’s and my church home for over 28 years. I am currently serving on Session for the fourth time. I have taught Sunday School and served on Stewardship most of the time I have been at Erin. I think I have some idea where we have been and what we aspire to, as a congregation, and I will do what I can to help us realize that vision while we are about the task of looking for a new pastor to serve with us at Erin.

I’ve been a member of Erin Presbyterian Church for 32 years, but not all at once. I grew up in the Rocky Hill area and started dating Joe in the fall of our senior year at Bearden High School and began attending Erin Church with him, joining in 1975. Joe and were married and moved to Minneapolis for Joe’s graduate school. In 1995 we returned to Knoxville and rejoined Erin Church just as John Stuart began his ministry. I helped start a children’s church program for the many new kids who began coming to Erin with their families, and our son Alex was in the very first Sonshine Company group. Our other son, Andy, loved his youth group and enjoyed weeks at Montreat all through high school.

I began teaching adult Sunday school in 1996, and after a few years I joined the choir and Erin Express. I was on Session in the early 2000s, and served another two consecutive terms during and just after COVID.

I was a member of the Discipleship and Personnel teams for several years, and today I’m convenor of the Outreach team and a member of the Worship and Property teams. I retired last year, which has allowed me to be more active in Justice Knox and help out with our granddaughter, Lyra. I greatly appreciate this opportunity to serve on the pastor nominating team, and I can’t wait to see what God has in store for Erin Church as we seek a new minister to lead us.

Linda and I have been members of Erin since 2005. I am currently the Clerk of Session and member of the Worship and Discipleship Teams. Previously, I have taught both adult and children’s Sunday school classes as well as been on Session for two terms. All that said to declare, I know most of the congregation and have a sense of who we are, and what our vision is. But this is about listening to you and considering how we can nominate a pastor who will appreciate God’s gifts at Erin and who will lead us in an energetic, Spirit-inspired, life to serve God. I am willing to serve.

Our family has been with Erin Presbyterian for several years and I have served as an Elder. I’m married to my extremely supportive wife, Alee Strand, and we have two amazing children: Aiden and Addison. Our children are active members of Sonshine Co., and we’ve supported the Sonshine Program and the overall Creative Expressions program. Outside of Erin Presbyterian, I am an attorney and adjunct professor with the University of Tennessee, teaching Business Ethics. I have served as the Head Coach for the L & N STEM Academy Swim Team for the past 10 years, in addition to helping coach Bearden Elementary Cross Country Team, Bearden Middle School Cross Country Team, Bearden Middle Boys Golf Team, and Knoxville Racquet Club Swim Team. I am extremely honored and humbled to be asked to serve the family of Erin Church on the Pastor Nominating Committee.
