Still, still, still
One can hear the falling snow.
For all is hushed,
The world is sleeping,
Holy Star its vigil keeping.
Still, still, still,
One can hear the falling snow.
This is a beautiful Nativity carol which is sung as a lullaby to the baby Jesus by Mary. It originally came from Mozart’s hometown of Salzburg, Austria, and was a well-known folk tune in the area, which may have been influenced by the famous composer.
The simplicity of the lyrics conveys the peace of Christ coming into the world. As Mary cradles Jesus and puts Him to sleep, the whole world is filled with a heavenly peace because its Savior has come to restore the whole of Creation to God.
In the midst of our busy-ness, this is an effective carol to lower our stress and restore our peace with God.
Points to ponder
Am I getting enough sleep during this busy season? Can I find the time to embrace Christ’s peace?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are the Prince of Peace, so we ask for Your comforting calmness to come into our lives. Help us to seek You when we are stressed; encourage us to find Your calming presence in the busiest of our days. In Your Holy Name, we pray. Amen.
