We continue reading Easter texts. Luke and John tell stories of the risen Christ being present as his followers gather together. Acts recounts how the Holy Spirit empowered the apostles to carry on his work. These stories reflect tensions in the early Christian community, so much of the language needs to be read as an inter-familial fight, not as accusations against Jews as a people or a faith. The psalm and Revelation reflect the large arc of God’s work – the confidence that God’s gracious rule will come to pass, a promise of which Christ’s resurrection is a sign of life for all the earth.
