Our journey through the prophets takes us to the challenging words of Amos, speaking God’s judgment against those who ignored the poor and were blinded by their own ease. The psalmist portrays God as the righteous judge over all, defending the needy. Colossians begins with thanks for the way the gospel transforms believers and a prayer for continued faithfulness. And Jesus reminds Martha of the one needful thing among many competing demands. Sometimes judgment stings; we don’t like to imagine God’s correction, and yet it is a gift of love. How is God shaping us through his word?
