This week we focus on the gospel’s call to justice and reconciliation. As we mark the Juneteenth day of liberation for those held in slavery, we read a long Psalm recounting a repetitive cycle of relationship between Israel and God: they need; God responds; they forget; God judges. Then the cycle repeats. We might not tell our own stories that way now but, this cycle affirms that God is both faithful and just. In 2 Corinthians Paul pleads for reconciliation with the church and expresses joy when that happens. How good it is when brothers and sisters live in unity!
