Psalm 23:3 He leads me in paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake (RSV)
During the Civil War, a Baptist minister – Joseph Henry Gilmore – presented a Bible Study on Psalm 23 to his congregation. The church folks were worried about the future and feared where they would all end up.
Pastor Gilmore told them that so long as God was leading them, then it did not matter where they went because God would look after them and lead them to a better place and time. The church folks discussed this for a while and as they did this, Pastor Gilmore wrote a short poem that has become a favorite hymn to millions of other Christians since then. The poem was simply called ‘He Leadeth Me.’
In the midst of our present circumstances, we are all worried about the future. What will happen to our country? How will we overcome this pandemic? When will things get back to normal? The answer to our questions is still the same: God will lead us to a better time and place.
Prayer: Lord God, help us to be still so that we can place our lives under Your Leadership. Grant peace to our minds, strength to our souls, love to our hearts, and faith to our spirits. In Christ’s Name, we pray. Amen.
